Where would you begin, first you will need some wheels to move the thing to the runway, add a couple of wings, a jet engines or two, some ammunition of course and some sticky back plastic and hey presto you have your very own fighter jet. Or maybe it’s a little more complicated then that.

Although this does raise a serious question, where would you begin when building a machine of advanced technological ability? These were questions in my head when I recently went to the Shoreham Air Show. Wheels, wings, jet engines and ammunition are the typical components involved, but who supplies the components to build the larger components.

I did a bit of research on the web and was surprised to find quite a few companies that supplied electrical components to private businesses and government Aerospace, tanks, ships and submarines. One company that I found, Aerco supply hundreds and thousands of parts, although you would need to know what you were buying. I don’t think I could tell the difference between a 030-8587-000, 2Z84911C, 5940-99-114-7771 or a 789-1471, or what they are for.

If you are looking to build you first defense system for your own private island, unless you know or have the people that know what there doing then you will probably be best buying in.

I'm always one for new technology and as such I have been looking at Instablogs.

Instablogs is a blog network that has been set-up in India by Nandini Maheshwari. I actually found the system pretty good and it is obvious from the interface used on Instablogs, that India really does have some talented people. That is reinforced by Google who state that many of their best products have been developed by their Indian development teams.

I have only got test data on the Instablogs system at this time, but I especially like the RSS import feed - Have a look at My Big Blog and Doublehard instablog

No, you’re not in the wrong category; this is not a post on marriage guidance. The guidance here is of a far more serious nature, that of the environment.

In Britain we throw away around 14 billion (14,000,000,000) single-use plastic bags every year. Although many of these are supposedly bio-degradable and, if we listen to many of the high street stores and supermarkets, therefore environmentally-friendly. This just simply is not true.

In a nutshell, these single-use plastic bags contain an additive designed to brake the plastic down when exposed to the sun, rain and elements. The problem is that most of the bags end up in amenity tips and landfills alongside our normal household rubbish. They get buried and therefore do not get exposed to the elements, and therefore do not decompose. Contrary to manufacturers claims, according to a study by the Australian Government they do not compost cleanly and may leave toxic residues behind.

The real answer to a greener Britain lies in our use of reusable carrier bags. Many manufacturers, such as Anglo Packaging, supply printed carrier bags in a variety of materials. So even if you use a non-degradable bag, providing you re-use it as often as possible you will be doing your bit for the environment. They also come in some pretty cool printed designs too - take a look a some of these printed carrier designs.

Smoke Free England is here. Or is it? The smoking ban in England officially came into force at 6.00am on Sunday 1st July 2007. Why 6.00am? Who knows. But there it is. Makes as much sense as the draconian measures the government have taken over this blanket ban.

The original White Paper on Public Health issued in 2004 stated that public houses and establishments selling prepared food would be the target of the smoking ban. This made total sense, and gave businesses such as non-food Pubs the option. Whatever happened with that turnaround? Was there a referendum? A public vote? Even a general consensus debate with the businesses affected? If there was, it was kept very quiet.

According to current PC hype and statistics, there are now 146 countries that are ‘happily smoke-free’. Closer to home, we are led to believe that the bans in Scotland and Ireland were met with open arms, and have had a positive effect on the pub trade. So how come when you actually speak to individuals rather than statisticians the opposite appears to be true? Just try searching the non-PC forums for a small sample of the feedback and a much more honest picture.

If we (the smokers of England) are all so happy to be dictated to in this fashion, why haven’t we all done the ‘sensible’ thing and given up? Why should a pub Landlord be driven to declaring his business an official consulate for a tiny island off Antigua, just to maintain his freedom of choice?

There are plenty of non-smoking establishments such as cinemas, restaurants, cafes and public transport. Why pick on those public houses that wish to exercise their right to choose. Where will it stop? Did you know that Westminster City Council have already applied to ban smoking in the streets? How soon before other local Councils follow suit? When will it become illegal to smoke in our own homes? Well, it is already actually if you work from home and share that space with colleagues or visitors to your business!

So what is the answer? The government is making sympathetic noises with regard to helping those who want to stop smoking. There is a plethora of smoking cessation aids to help you quit smoking, and now that Champix has been approved for UK prescription, perhaps now is the time to consider quitting smoking once and for all. Me? I’m off to see Sir Bob Beech in Southampton to get some tips on setting up an Embassy at my local.

I have just come across a new blog system (well new to me).

I set up an account and within a few minutes I was off and running. The system is on blog.co.uk. Much like blogspot you can have a unique name as a subdomain of the parent.

At any time any 'Able-Bodied' person could befall an accident or incur a medical condition and then within the click of a fingers one can become disabled.

Wooden Dolls House

OK, I have just had a birthday present request from one of my nieces, for a Wooden Dolls House!

My initial question to myself was what the buggering balls did I know about Doll's Houses or indeed even where to get one from?

OK, Google it, I thought that would be the best bet. But boy did I not know that I would be opening pandora's box. Talk about Bamboozled!

The world that I had entered was unbelievable, the choice of Doll's Houses was immense. However luck was on my side as my niece had whittled the selection of her desired Wooden Dolls House down to two!

Even better that one of the dolls houses was listed in the top 10 from a company by the name of Mulberry Bush. My impossible quest was now turning into something of a country stroll!

Upon hitting the Mulberry bush site I was instantly rewarded with the Wooden Dolls House that my niece desired. I can only assume that Mulberry Bush are using a corking Search Engine Optimisation team as this product was right up there with the usual search suspects of Amazon and eBay.

Beer Tasting Cruise

I was recently invited to participate in a Beer Tasting Cruise. Imagine, a man in a wheelchair on a boat with Beer, it was a recipe for going overboard.

The event is organised by a company called Topsail, this specific event was in conjunction with 'The Beer Academy'.

apparently according to the pre-tip brief I received, the Beer Academy's experts are all experienced brewers of beer who are vastly knowledgeable. Maybe, but are they as knowledgeable as a weekend beer drinker, Answer - YES!

First we had to find out how to taste beer using sight, smell and taste.

Have you ever noticed the aroma of bananas, toffee.Oror tinned sweetcorn...in your pint?!

In the time oboardrd, you get to taste a range of beer styles including lagers, ales, bitters and stouts.

The trip was an education, the experts teach you how to match beer and food with a tasty selection of nibbles, such as a beer which is sweet but has a bitter ending, tasted with a sweet digestive biscuit & strong cheese to mirror the flavours.

Each beer is tasted 'blind' - guests are asked to identify the brand. For us this was into a competition and boy it is not as easy as you may think, even if you think you know your beer!

There were a selection of nibbles available with the tasting, plus following the tasting there was a seated dinner which after a considerable amount of beer tasting was much appreciated.

So did I fall off the boat? Did I heck as like, you would have read about it on the BBC news pages, but what I did manage to do as have a bloody awesome time, enjoy some great food and learn something new about Beer. As a day out goes surely it does not get any better than that!

I spoke to the event organiser, they said this event was booked through an events company called TopSail. Confusingly enough their web site name is something totally different!

Disabled Travel - How I found Las Vegas for a Wheelchair user!

I'm a wheelchair user, so I find going on holiday requires extra preparation.

If you have a disability You know that you need to make sure that everything is in place, never leave anything to chance.

Flights - Do ensure the airline is aware that you are wheelchair dependant, let them know if you need any special requirements.

If you are completely dependant on a wheelchair let them know. Some people don't always assume that a person can't walk just because they use a wheelchair.

Hotel - Pre-qualify that there is wheelchair access in the hotel and that a wheelchair can gain access to the bathroom.

When travelling, I like to make sure that everything is sorted. Even if it means being a nuisance and ensuring that you have written letters of confirmation that everything you require as a disabled traveller is in place.

In fairness, a trip to the US is probably one of the easiest, if not the easiest for a wheelchair user. After all this is a country that actually has sufficient laws in place to disallow prejudice against wheelchair users.

But even so, as a wheelchair user you must ensure that all is OK.

I have a good rapport with the tour operator that I use. I have found it better to build up a relationship so that when you are considering travelling they are aware of circumstances and take this into account. Following from that, the holidays I choose are not specifically the cheapest, but the old saying 'You get what you pay for' is very true.

I booked this trip to Las Vegas through www.americansky.co.uk although in truth I have typically booked holidays through their sister holiday site www.tropicalsky.co.uk.

The long flight is never a problem, after all I am used to sitting on my backside all day! But do ensure you put the 'Ted Stockings' on to help prevent against DVT attacks. I have seen wheelchair users develop DVT (although not on a plane) and believe me you would not want to suffer from this!

Transport from the airport to the hotel was not a problem. The American cabbies were only too happy to help, and if I'm being honest were not scared to help. (Anyone who uses a wheelchair and gets taxis in the UK will know what I mean)

Once you are at the hotel (don't forget you have already pre-qualified access), the holiday can begin.

Getting around Las Vegas again should not be a problem, there are plenty of taxis available. Personally, I think you are better off burning a bit of rubber and wheeling around the city to take it all in.

Taxis are ok, but you need to be with the people and mixing to get a real flavour of the place. It goes without saying that if there is a good distance to be covered than a taxi ride is always an option.

There was only one hotel that I wanted to stay on my first trip and that was the 'Golden Nugget' I had seen the bright lights of the Golden Nugget through a multitude of different media and for some reason it stuck in my mind.

In a way I was lucky the hotel was 4 star, as I don't know what I would have done if it had been a 2 star location.

Access in and around the hotel was fine, although some of the slots were a bit high to get cash into (but this is a worldwide problem and not a Golden Nugget issue). However, there always seemed to be someone on hand to assist.

For me Las Vegas was a dream, I encountered no problems and I thoroughly enjoyed my seven days there. Thankfully I didn't get drunk enough to get married, but the idea of being married by Elvis Presley does have a warped sense of appeal.

If you are thinking of Las Vegas, my advice is do it - it has to be done.

When travelling you must insure that furnish the insurance company with any ongoing health issues you may have. Otherwise you may find your cover is void, so in this case honesty is the best policy.

RANT OF THE MONTH - FAT KIDS

As far as I am concerned, there are always going to be fat kids. it's a fact of life, they were around when I was at school and they are still around today. The trouble is, there are more fat kids now then ever!

So what is the reason for this? You could could look at the any of the following and point the finger:

Fast Food, Sweets, Chocolate, Crisps, Less Parks, Less Sport in Schools, Consoles and PC's, Peadophiles/Wierdos

I'll look at each one in turn:

FAST FOOD
Why do we bother eating the rubbish the big made-for-profit organisations produce, it's garbage, it tastes foul, and lets bet fair it's bloody killing us. All I will say is, DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE. The trash that we eat from the majority of fast-food establishments.

SWEETS, CHOCOLATES & CRISPS
Bollocks, I love a good pack of crisps, but I am absoloutely convinced that in certain packets of crips there is a hidden ingredient that makes you want to come back for more. Don't believe me? Try Kettle Chips or Walkers Sensations, it is hard to put a pack down.

LESS PARKS
Well, we all know about greedy local boroughs and councils selling off parks for yet more housing development, it's wrong, why don't they do something with all of the derelict buildings there are, better still not allow any more shops to be built, it's not like you cannot buy everything off the Internet, what the feck do we need shops for?

SCHOOL SPORT
I used to love sport at school, it was awesome, throw away the text books for an hour and get out there and buurn some energy. For me there is not wnough sport in schools, that in itself is wrong, there should be more. For one you can ban religious education that's a crock of crap, we all know religion is the major evil of the world, why study it, it gets rammed down your throat throughout life anyway, Like I give a fuck what the Pope thinks, same as he does not give a fuck what I think.

I have two words for religion: FUCK OFF!

CONSOLES/PC'S
OK, I've written this, I have a PC, does that make me not exercise? NO, I have a Console, does that make me not exercise? NO.

This is another bullshit excuse propelled by some bullshit organisation. Fair enough in the winter I may spend more time on the PC/Console, but as soon as the sun is shining, i'm outside, end of. If you have a kid that is always playing games on a console then you as a parent are responsinble for telling them enough is enough. If you haven't got the power to do that then, your a weak fool who does not deserve children.

PAEDOPHILES
This one is the killer. There is less freedom for kids these days die to the fact thaty our bollocks PC ways allow these feeaks to be allowed to breathe air Here are two simple equations:

PEADOPHILE + DEATH PENALTY = NO WEIRDOS

NO WEIRDOS + CHILDREN = SAFER WORLD FOR KIDS TO LIVE IN

Of course there are still dangers in the world, but surely nothing more dangerous then these low-life scum who deserve nothing less than execution.

All of this leads me to the following, get your kids a whacking great bit climbing frame for the back garden. It's safe, you know where they are, they can have their friends round an be sociable.

Volvo Ocean Race

Summer is here, the sun is shining, the ladies have skimpy clothes on and all is right with the world.

Ignore the fact we will have no water in the coming weeks and that George Bush is still in power, Summers great, and I love it.

Not long into the Summer is the Volvo Ocean Race which is being held at Portsmouth. Luckily, I'll be enjoying part of this glorious festival from a ship actually in the Solent giving me a spectacular view of the race.

I was lucky, my place at this years Volvo Ocean Race was courtesy of a friend, but as with anything, I am rarely satisfied, so I set about trying to get a couple of extra mates to come along with me.

It may be a boat that I am viewing the race from, but I still require a regular drinking partners to accompany me! Especially when I am set out in the middle of the Solent.

My tickets were sourced by sailing event experts RedSky Sailing.

As I had left it a couple of weeks after receiving my tickets, I was not confident that I would be able to gain any more places on the shop for this popular event in this hotbed of sailing on the south coast of England.

Thankfully, I needn't have worried, there were a few places left for this prestigious event and to be honest the cost for a one-off event such as the Volvo Ocean Race was relatively cheap.

The days sailing also includes a complimentary bar and lunch. Lets just hope that after pounding the complimentary bar that I am not asked to get up in the rigging or that will be something else they will have to fish out of the water!

I can't say that Climbing Frames have been my thing for the last few years, they tend not to be used that much by a wheelchair user like me.

I was asked by a family member to do some research into them as they were considering getting one for their kids. I was shocked as to how much Climbing Frames had changed since I was a youngster.

Gone are those dour metal contraptions, the market is filled with huge wooden structures that require a garden the size of Anfield to house them - Only Joking :)

In all seriousness though there are a good few retailers out there offering these impressive frames that will give children a world of adventure in your own backyard.

As with anything you get what you pay for. There are Climbing Frames out there for those with a tight budget but I was more impressed with the more expensive end of the market, I think they offered a lot more to a child's imagination.

After a great deal of surfing I found the Climbing Frames at www.climbingframesuk.com to have everything that was required. You can create custom play centres for the garden and give your kids a real treat.

I was told by a mate to not buy a new car but to lease a new car instead. Being honest I had no idea about Car Contract Hire and Car Leasing, they were alien concepts to me.

I thought that if you were after a new vehicle, you visited the local dealership and signed the papers! What little did I know!

I thought it was time to move on up in the world, and create even more debt for myself. Hey I'm covered by the life insurance, so what the heck.

I fancied upgrading from my modest little bungalow to something more grand, a house that stated to everybody who saw it and visited that, yes I had gone up in the world and yes I was bolloxed financially!

Mortgage companies don't care, as long as they flimsy evidence that you can make a repayment they'll say yes. That is unless you have no evidence of debt, then you are more than likely going to get turned down.

Having chosen to get myself in deft even further I then had the painstaking process of looking for property. Firstly, I hate shopping, secondly unless it can be delivered I don't buy it, so you can image how tiresome it is going and looking at property. Then I have the added complication of the wheelchair bolted to my arse. Lets face facts the majority of property in the UK seems to be against having access for people in wheelchair's. Oh Joy!!

I looked on Google for Estate Agents, all the usual suspects came to the fore, but in all honesty, I was after a local estate agent so I keyed in 'West Sussex Estate Agent'.

After trawling through the top 10 results (I never go past the first page, so if your website is not on the first page, you definitely require some search engine optimisation) I came across a site I liked, Hunters Estate Agents based in Burgess Hill.

I liked the Hunters site, it had some upper class properties that struck a cord, this was it I could find my property in west sussex with Hunters.

And to cut a long story short, I did find a property. I am more laden with debt then ever, everyone now thinks that I am minted.

On the plus point, the ladies love the new abode, so it is proving in some quarters to be a wise investment!

Michael Owen

I am afraid that I have little sympathy for Michael Owen at the moment.

I still can't believe his decision to join a team that realisticaly had no chance of a top four finish in the Premiership.

Surely the main reason for joining Newcastle was the fact that they were desparate and paid over the odds plus they offered him something that neither Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea wouldn'nt - an automatic starting place!

I don't buy into all that bluff that Rafa Benitez came up with when the teams met on boxing day. If Liverpool wanted Michael Owen, they could have had him.

Michael chose Newcastle simply as their squad was/is weaker than Liverpool's and because he knew he would be guaranteed a starting place.

Liverpool's decision to keep 16 million rather then spend it on the injury prone Owen was the right decision. It's true, Michael Owen will score a team 20 goals a season, but only if he is fit.

I wish Michael well, but as far as I am concerned the only thing Michael cares about is his England shirt. There are no concerns all the time Sven is in charge.

I expect Michael to be in Germany regardless if he's still on crutches or not!

Hot Tubs - Why?

What is it with Hot Tubs, why is it that they have become so bloody popular?

Everywhere I look there seem to be companies selling these glorified baths. The local papers always seem to have adverts for them.

So, I have to ask the question, who the hell are buying these things? After all it's not every home that can house one of these units, I know I certainly couldn't. I have enough trouble getting a bird table into my back garden, where the hell could I put a great big electric guzzling glorified bath?

I know they have benefits, especially for the old sex life, but surely some sexy underwear has to be cheaper than the electric bill alone?

So if anyone can convince me that Hot Tubs are nothing more than a fad, then please feel free to enlighten me.

Nothing wrong in that some might say, it is though when you victimise and bully people.

The bullying behaviour that you displayed in this case should be rewarded, here is your reward, a nice blog letting others know how you treat disabled people who use Motability Vehicles to gain independence.

Steeles of Worthing, were only too happy to supply a car to a disabled man.

Our man whilst trying to get in and out of a vehicle within the showroom made it plainly clear that he may scratch the vehicle whilst getting in and out of it. The salesman who handled the sale even commented how difficult it was for this man to get in and out of the vehicle, and went on how impressed he was of our our man got himself in and out of the car!

Six years later, the same Vauxhall dealer was pursuing compensation from our victim! Why? Because of superficial scratches to the drivers door whilst the chair was placed in and out of the vehicle

Within three years the wheelchair was pulled in and out of the vehicle over 4,000 times! Able bodied people would struggle not to mark a vehicle, yet this car dealer insisted that the damage was not 'Fair Wear & Tear' and took it upon themselves to insist that the vehicle was in A1 condition, otherwise they would not accept it back and subsequently the disabled driver would not be able to have a vehicle on the Motability Scheme.

The Motability Scheme, is meant to aid disabled drivers, yet on the say so of a greedy car dealer, the lifeline that a vehicle offers can be taken away.

This in itself is and was wrong!

Motability and Motability finance Ltd became embroiled in this was between a dealers greed and an individuals right to freedom.

Our case is a C6,C7 Tetraplegic, for those not knowing this terminology, he had broken his neck! As a result of this he lost the fine use of his fingers and only had flexion grip supplied by wrist movement.

At no time was this man instructed by the dealer that he would have to protect the vehicle in anyway from preventing the wheelchair from maybe causing superficial damage.

The Managing Director, Mr Alan Steele commented that he knew of nothing that would prevent a wheelchair from causing damage whilst being taken in and out of a vehicle. This man is happy to accept the riches that being a Motability dealer brings, yet he was not prepared that a disabled person and the equipment that some use may cause slight paint damage to a vehicle.

There was much correspondence between the two parties, it was correspondence from the dealer that changed the course of the war. Within the documentation, Alan Steele MD, asked the victim to LIE to 'The Royal Sun Alliance' Insurance Company, about the type of damage!

This information was presented to Motability, along with a damage assessment report by Frosts of Shoreham who verified that the damage was not as serious as suggested by the Network Q dealer in Worthing, West Sussex.

With this our information, the firm ground that Steales stood on, crumbled into an abyss. Power to the people!

The dealers attitude on this occasion was appalling, the MD showed no regard to how this man who relies upon a on vehicle for independence and some form of normal life. He was not in the slightest bit bothered how this man would make hospital appointments at specialist spinal units, hundreds of miles away from his home.

This individual does not deserve to deal with Motability or to those member of the public that do have the misfortune of having a disability, a case of class 1 hypocrisy!.

Yes disabled person we will lease you a car upon the Motability scheme, don't worry about anything when you are trying it out, just be prepared to ensure that the vehicle looks like it came out the factory when you bring it back in three years time. If not I will be unhappy that I cannot make more money from you!

Think about getting a vehicle from this dealer, they don't really give a stuff about your disability. If you so much as sneeze upon a leased car from this Vauxhall dealer, you will have a valet bill to deal with before you can finish wiping your nose.

Recently 'The Kitchen Studio' had a rep come round to my new abode and set about in my Kitchen with his tape measure, two hours later I had a kitchen plan that would keep me in treats with the girlfriend for a good many weeks.

What happens next is why England is becoming such a joke nation.

1. The salesman's phone had been disconnected, he could not email the spec over to me.
2. After calling the local branch and explaining that I wanted the spec I was informed to expect a call next day.
3. If you say you are going to so something the bloody well do it, no call ever came through.
4. The salesman is due to leave the company and have his laptop wiped, my spec goes with it.
